About Us

Various People Inc creates deconstructed chamber vocal works for intimate audiences in non-traditional venues, with contemporary socio-cultural connections.

Our productions create intersections between music, design, installation and the social conscience, deconstructing the traditional chamber music format and working across art forms with diverse stakeholders to illuminate some of the compelling issues of our time.

Our reputation as creators of high quality, genre-bending, uplifting and surprising work has seen us present in the Adelaide Festival and in the Adelaide Fringe, Cabaret, Cabaret Fringe and Come Out Festivals, as well as within the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Intimate Music and Summer Sessions series, and with organisations including Tutti Arts, RIAus, State Opera of SA, SA Museum and the Port Fairy Spring Festival.

Household Names, our affectionate take on the work/life balance of female musicians in 200-year instalments, was premiered at the 2019 Port Fairy Spring Festival before being presented to critical and audience acclaim at the 2021 Adelaide Fringe.

Our Baroque cabaret, La Virtuosissima Cantatrice, won Best Production and Best Music at the 2018 Adelaide Cabaret Fringe. Other work includes Orpheus Underground, produced in the Treasury Tunnels in Adelaide to sell-out audiences and critical acclaim, Instructions for an Imaginary Man (2012 Adelaide Festival of Arts), The Velvet Gentleman (2012 Cabaret Festival) and Vesalius: A Requiem, which was listed in The Advertiser Top Ten Shows for 2010.

For the Come Out Festival we produced Daughter of the Sea in 2009 and Stari Most for the closing concert in 2011. Other productions include The Shouting Fence (Adelaide Fringe, 2009) and performances as part of the Sessions, InSPACE and Intimate Music series at the Adelaide Festival Centre (I See Your Beating Heart, 2012, Small Victories, 2013, The Red Pinafore, 2014)

Collaborative partners have included the State Opera of South Australia (60 Minute Opera productions Madam Butterfly, Gretel and Hansel and Carmen CSI), RIAus and FMC Arts in Health (Heartsong, 2011), Tutti Arts (The Magic Flute 2011), and numerous emerging and established South Australian artists.
