Various People Inc

 an ensemble of possibilities

Various People invite you to join us on our journey as we create music and music theatre which inspires us all to try to make the world a little more the way we would all like it to be.  Every donation makes a big difference, whatever the amount.

What we do...

At Various People we are passionate about creating music and music theatre that provides a beautiful and unexpected space in which to think a little differently about who we are and how we approach some of the big issues of our times.

We tell stories for people who sometimes do not have a voice to speak for themselves, creating an arena for thought and discussion and for reminding us how we connect.

We work with talented South Australian artists and provide opportunities for performers at the beginning of their careers.

In 2012 we created works for the Adelaide Festival of Arts and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.  We are recognised for creating work with strong artistic, social and cultural relevance.

What you can do..

Your gift can:

  • help us create thoughtful, evocative, challenging and uplifting productions
  • support our writers, researchers, our singers and musicians, our composers, designers and directors
  • help us to provide valuable professional development and learning experiences for the next generation of South Australian performers
  • enable us to commission and create new South Australian work
  • provide opportunities for artistic collaborations with community organisations, helping us to bring a voice to those who have stories that need to be told

Our next production...

We invite you to support The Red Pinafore as it begins its journey from the first elusive and enticing strands of creative development through all the stages of research, writing, work-shopping, designing, rehearsing and finally to the opening night performance where an intoxicating story of the Oz-Asia connection made around the kitchen tables of 1970s Australia will have its premiere.

Our creative team is gathering stories from the domestic world of the 1970s, when to be a mixed-race child in primary school was to inhabit a precarious world, and the notion of cross-cultural assimilation was a fairytale from the future.  How did these children navigate their way through the uneasy co-existence of orange and brown kitchen tiles, shag pile carpet and cheese and cabana on a stick with their noodles, communal bowls of rice and unusually brown skin?  What do they tell their own children who are making their way into the twenty first century with its hungry courting of the Asia that was so foreign just a few short decades ago?
