Cheryl is a director, singer and singing teacher, and is Artistic Director of Various People Inc.
For Various People Inc Cheryl has directed Vesalius: a Requiem, which was listed in The Adelaide Advertiser Top Ten Shows for 2010, and '60 Minute Opera' versions of Carmen, Hansel & Gretel and Madam Butterfly for the State Opera Studio. For OperaTu, a partnership between the State Opera of South Australia and Tutti Arts, Cheryl directed the acclaimed choral theatre production The Shouting Fence in the 2009 Adelaide Fringe Festival, and the much-loved circus-inspired production of The Magic Flute (2011). Cheryl has also recently devised and written productions for Arts in Health at the Flinders Medical Centre and the Royal Institute of Australia, and the West Terrace Cemetery Authority for History Week SA 2010.
Cheryl has extensive performing experience in opera, oratorio and recital, within Australia and in the United Kingdom. She has performed at the Bath International Festival, the Tate Gallery St Ives Festival, the South Bank Centre, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Greenwich Maritime Museum, with the Lindsay Quartet and for English National Opera's Studio Night series. Cheryl was a founding member of the acclaimed a cappella group The Shout, performing extensively across the UK and appearing in Because I Sing on Channel 4 Television and on their CD, On Arrival.
Cheryl performs regularly in Adelaide. This year she has performed as the mezzo soloist in Instructions for an Imaginary Man in the Adelaide Festival of Arts, in The Velvet Gentleman in the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and in concert in the Space Theatre as part of the Festival Centre’s Intimate Music series.
Cheryl was the vocal adjudicator for the 2008 Adelaide Eisteddfod, and is a highly regarded singing teacher. Her students have been major prize-winners in vocal competitions and include professional performers.
